Building Department

The Building Department is responsible for:

• Building permit plan review and inspections
• Business license inspections
• Inspections for short-term rental permits 

Francis City requires a building permit for the construction, alteration, repair, or removal of any building or structure. Permits are also required for solar photovoltaic installations. There are exceptions for:

• Residential accessory buildings less than 200 square feet 
• Certain agricultural buildings
• Fences less than 6 feet in height
• When is a building permit required?

Francis City follows the 2021 IBC and IRC building codes.
